On The same night as the Raptors game 1 win against The Golden State Warriors, Canada’s most stylish and fashion-forward individuals assembled at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel for the 6th annual CAFA. The Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards, celebrates outstanding achievement and emerging talent in the Canadian fashion industry. We were there to support the nominees and check out what everyone was wearing! … of course we were both wearing ALFRED SUNG.
The evening began with a packed red carpet & cocktail hour that had us rubbing elbows with the stars. Even designers Viktor and Rolf were in attendance, flying in from Amsterdam to celebrate our true north style. Other notable guests included fashion model Coco Rocha, superstar poet Rupi Kaur and singer/actress Vanessa Williams. We spent some time mingling and chatting with our friends before we moved to the main room where Jessi Cruickshank hosted the awards ceremony.

Tamara and I were invited to sit at one of Suzanne Rogers’ tables. At one point in the ceremony, Rogers was referred to as “the fairy godmother of Canadian fashion” by Cruickshank. We were pleased to be seated with Suzanne Timmins, Tracey Moore, Jane Connell and Lisa Corbo. Dinner included a poached salmon appetizer and beef striploin entree. It was no surprise that this crowd was less interested in dinner and more concerned with mingling amongst their fashion peers.
At the half-way point of the awards ceremony, Charlotte Cardin performed 2 songs. It was great to see veteran Canadian talents, such as photographer Douglas Kirkland, and model Dayle Haddon honoured alongside emerging designer talent. The highlight of the evening for us was Toronto Fashion Incubator designer Sid Neigum winning both the womenswear designer of the year and a $20,000 grant for international development from a homegrown designer. As members of the TFI Board, we were proud to see him take home the big awards.
